We moved to Pickwick Lake in southwest Tennessee in 2007 after we both retired. We've been busier here than we ever were in Memphis. Our social life is full and packed with fun. We joined a local chapter of the Parrot Heads and haven't looked back. We spend a lot of time on the lake on our pontoon boat (the favored means of transport on our lake). A bunch of us have formed the Pickwick Geriatric Swim Team. We meet in a cove and tie our pontoons together. We float in the water, drink beer or other refreshments, eat hot dogs, etc. and just have a lot of fun. Scandalous behavior for folks in our late 60's, but huge fun.

The nearest stoplight is about fifteen miles away. Our lake community is full of people who have moved here to escape the urban/suburban lifestyle we were tied to for so many years. Our children and their kids are about two hours away, so we get lots of company in the summer.

We never considered moving here, but knew we had to get out of Memphis to escape the high real estate taxes and urban problems. We looked around the area with friends and that was all there was to it. We started looking for a house and found a great one in a gated community. We've made great friends on our street and many other friends around the area. Living here full time has made our lives full and great fun.
