Hello to all! My husband and I built a Log Home right outside of Oxford Wisconsin. I grew up in Wisconsin and have always wanted to live back there when I retire or even before. My husband is still working and we decided to start building for our dream home 2 years ago. It is on a small Lake so he is very happy because he loves to fish! I am very happy because I always wanted a Log Cabin, and I will be living in Wisconsin again! Currently it is a weekend and vacation home but within the next few years it will be full time. We lived in texas for 20 years and even Saudi arabia for 7 years and there is no place like home! Our children only live a few hours away and so the grandkids and kids love it!!! Also my dog and their dogs love to run around and go in the small lake. Hope to ehar from others of you if you feel like saying Hi!
Welcome to the site. We live in Wisconsin Rapids, and have a cottage in Rice Lake. Where is Oxford? Boy, I think I remember our kids being in wrestling tournaments in Oxford many years ago.
What lake are you on? How big is your lake? Wisconsin is the best!
HI! Oxford is 20 minutes from Wisconsin dells...by Portage. It is not very big...Population 536, a few churches, convenient stores, taverns and a few of everything else...people are friendly. Hill Lake is the lake we live on...we cannot ahve power boat...just small fishing and pontoons...aobut 22 people around the Lake...big enough for us. There are about 10 other Lakes right around us for bigger boats. Thanks for replying!
Welcome to the Cabin Life forums. Do you have photos of your dream cabin to share? If so, please post them in the photo galleries so we can see them.

Great to have another Wisconsinite on the forum! Our cottage is also on a small lake in the northern part of the state. We absolutely love it! We started out wanting a log home too but ended up building a more traditional home with all of the woodsy accents inside. Less maintenance or so we hope. The cedar porch and back deck and screen room have proven to be lots of upkeep already to maintain its newness.
Just got the Cabin Life Email and found your introduction. We built our retirement house on Jordan Lake also outside of Oxford so I was pleased to see your post. WELCOME to the area and as i sit looking out on the melting snow I can tell you that the wait is worthwhile! Anxious to hear what lake you are on and how close we are to each other.

Howdy right back. I read your post and it is truely ironic! My wife and I built a home on a lake in Wisconsin a few years back as well. My wife is from Wisconsin and can't wait to get back. We vacation there every year. We lived in Texas for 23 years but hope to retire soon and be snowbirds. We are currently living in Qatar (boarders Saudi) and have been here 9 years. It good to here from someone with such a similar background. I also think that after experiencing Qatar, or Saudi, Wisconsin looks even better than it already does!
Nice to see so many folks from Wisconsin on this forum! We bought a place on Lake Namakagon, near Hayward/Cable Wisconsin, 3 years ago. We still have our 'primary' home about 200 miles away, but I'm trying to convince my hubby to sell it and downsize to a condo (same area; it's near grandchildren!). We love the cabin life - this summer in Wisconsin sure is different weather-wise, though. Enjoy, all!
Are you vacationing there this summer? We had a wonderful 4th of July Party!! Hot...almost as hot as saudi!!!! What city is your wife originally from? I am from Janesville.
I just read this...I am behind in my replys...where in the northern state? I have friends and relatives up by Mondovi and Augusta.
Sorry I am jsut replying to this...my e-mail was messed up for awhile. Hill Lake is the Lake, catch and release for fishing. I have been to Rice Lake before, Near Hayward?
Hello! I posted some pictures...the last ones were of my dog licking a fish...I'll have to check to see if the cabin is still in there.
My wife and I decided to change from avid campers to cabin owners about 3 years ago and bought a cabin shell near Crivitz WI. We had never built anything but have learned so much during this project. Yes, we are still married (29yrs.) and we both have all of out fingers and toes. The cabin was fun to build and all we have left is some finish trim. Our grand children come with us almost every weekend (they live with us.) and I love seeing their faces light up when we pull into it.
Cabin folk are great and I love only being an hour away from my happy place. I wouldn't trande it for anything right now because we are doing it by ourselves!
Welcome! What lake are you off of? I also live in the area and am looking to build a new vacation cottage.
Welcome to the area!! We have our place on Teal Lake, 25 mi east of Hayward off Highway 77. I have spent my life coming and going to Teal and Lost Land, having a second home now since 1967..(I was a kid when my folks bought it). My husband and I finished a major remodel around 3 years ago and are enjoying it as much as possible...we get up North at least once a month...primarily live in Omaha, NE. Gotta love Lake Living!!!
