Saglaker, 56 years on your lake is heaven! I bet you have some great stories. It would be nice to have a category for campfire tales. I would love to tell some this summer, sitting next to the fire, under the stars. Campfires, another good smell.

Welcome blmeanie. I love Atlanta. My sister used to live in Midtown until she was transferred to LA.( I need some Matt's BBQ and some sweet tea! lol ) She had a boat on the same lake as you! She came up to our cabin in Wisconsin last year and loved it. It does seem kind of strange that there are so many of us from northwestern Wisconsin but it is a great place to be. Stop in for a cold Leinie's. It's almost time for Summer Shandy! (beer laced with a touch of lemonade)
Loonylady we are also from Chicago & Suburbs now living in Eau Claire, WI for over 26 years now. We go back to visit family but want out A.S.A.P. Once we hit Woodfield Mall we want to turn back. The traffice is beyond crazy. The question from friends pops up " do you think you would ever move back into the city"? We just give them the deer in the headlights look.
Yes we also like the cabin store and have dropped some coin ourself. Great ice cream too. We are going up this weekend to bring the boat up, get the well going, and get after those leaves, and spend the night. What a great life we all have up north. I drive a lot in my business and this week I have seen 4 sand hill cranes, 3 great blue herons, and lots of Canada Geese. I am hoping the loon's are back.
There sure are a lot of "loons" on this board! lol We also drive through Danbury on the way to the lake. Love the cabin store and especially the ice cream cones on the drive home. My mom's lake place is in eastern Wisconsin, near Crandon. She says the loons always appear when the ice goes out. She said there are quite a few eagles in her area right now. We are also heading up this weekend to "open the cabin." The Pontoon goes in on Saturday and I can't wait to try for some crappies. We had a forest fire this last week, about 7 1/2 acres burned in the Chequamegon forest, about fifteen miles east of our place. They are still saying that the fire danger is high. Everyone be careful out there.
Hey Rich,
Our cabin is in the western end of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. All we have at present is a garage with a studio apartment. But......we have 10 acres with 700 foot of frontage on the lake, a fishing boat, canoe, and all the comforts of home. I hope to sell off 4 acres and keep six with studio and later built a "full sized" cabin
We are north west of Land O Lakes, WI but on the MI side. Eagle River is probably 18 miles? or so from Land O Lakes
We are on an 11,000 acre lake in far Northern Minnesota. Right now we have a camper and a bunkhouse and plans to build a real cabin sometime in the future. In the mean time, we'll enjoy our view:
Just joined the forum...it is very satisfying to read about people who are as nuts about their cabins as I am!
Our cabin (i share it with two of my sisters) is in a little bay on the western shore of Buck Lake, about 25 miles NW of Hibbing, MN. Yes, the water is iron-y! The cabin has been in our family for 75 years...we rebuilt it last fall (and the work continues, of course) around the original stone fireplace and chimney. Lots of work, lots of money, but it is more beautiful than we imagined. The garage is still the "old" style, so if we ever get nostalgic about the old cabin, we just have to look at the garage to remember!
We used all local people and suppliers for our rebuild. The people who work up there are terrific! Their work ethic makes us "cities" folks feel lazy! The good news is that, for the first time ever, we got to witness the changing of the seasons at the cabin this past few months. From the first snowfall, walks on the frozen lake, snow golf!, and the ice going out (early this year-April 2nd!)...it has been like being at the cabin for the first time.
Even though we don't have to "put in the water" in May anymore, we'll still go up for our traditional "Women's Working Weekend" in a couple weeks. My sisters, my niece, my daughter and the dogs will go up and start working on the yard (it needs a LOT of work!).
I've been up to the cabin just about every weekend since September when the construction started...can't wait to make that 4-hour drive on Fridays after work!

I love your dock. What a practical arrangement. We are in far northeast, MN on a big, deep lake and we find there are many personalities of a big lake. The wind can really get the waves going, but when it is quiet and foggy it like I must have imagined the lashing of the wind only the day before.
Hi! Altho our cabin is outside of Hayward WI...our primary residence is Omaha, NE...where is your private lake?? And Welcome to the site!!
