you got a decade on me, old timer
I am so proud to be a Wisconsin home owner and a cottage owner. Not to mention, we have the BEST football team ever!
I'm located in NW Montana -- Little Bitterroot Lake. Cabin has been in the family since 1926! Love this magazine and while they are currently ice fishing on the lake, I'm dreaming of summer.
Love the Bitterroots. Beautiful country. Can't imagine having a cabin on a lake there! WOW.
Hi, everybody. I've been a Cabin Life subscriber for a couple of years but just joined the Forum recently. Our cabin is on Caribou Lake, in northeastern Minnesota, about 6 miles north of the north shore of Lake Superior. There are black bears, moose, deer and wolves in the neighborhood and the Superior Hiking Trail, from Duluth to the Canadian border, runs just south of Caribou Lake.

Hi CaribouDan:
Good to see that there's readers from the North Shore. I grew up in Cook County but now live on the East Coast. I checked out your link, your place is exactly the way a northwoods cabin should look! I hope you enjoy the Lake and the wonderful people of Lutsen. We have a cabin in Vermont but only go during the warmer months. This past summer we had a bear on the back mountain that at times would come down to the cabin. We also have Bald Eagles, Hawks, Deer, Coyotes, Snakes and other creatures that love to live nearby. What's so great is that it all reminds me of the North Shore!
I have been a "Cabin Life" reader since the first issue but just decided to jump into the forum. Our "KumAgen Lodge" started out as a one room full log in 1946. We are in the Northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan on a tributary of the AuSable River. (near the Holy Waters).
We lost the first cabin in a 1967 fire. A ‘temporary’ cabin was used for 35 years until I rebuilt a few years ago. Now our place has become the focus point for family and friends. We get together as often as we can get away and within minutes of getting “Up North” all worries and stress is left, “Down Below”!
thanks for sharing.....within minutes of getting “Up North” all worries and stress is left, “Down Below”! Isn't that the truth! Looking forward to escaping to the cabin next weekend.
So proud to be a cabin owner less than 75 miles from GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN!!! Way to go Packers on an outstanding SuperBowl win yesterday.
Yep, the North Shore is special. I didn't mention in my initial post that we're also on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW), which is what got us going to northeastern Minnesota in the first place 25 years ago (we live our non-cabin lives in central Iowa). We've done a number of canoe trips over the years, packing all our gear in the middle of the canoe and striking out through the wilderness, portaging from one lake to another, spending usually 4-5 days traveling and enjoying the solitude. Strangely, our overnight wilderness canoe trips have tapered off since we've owned our cabin...though we still go in the Boundary Waters on day trips...
Wow, that sounds fun, exciting, and dangerous all at the same time. Ever run into problems on these canoe trips?
I'm wondering if there are any Pennsylvania people out there as I know there are alot of cabins and cottages around here.
Greetings to all you "Easterners". It's fun to watch so many of you connecting to each other through the close proximity of your cabins. I've heard that having a cabin is a fairly normal part of life in some states.
My place is in Big Bear Lake, California, a ski resort (elevation 6800 ft) just 100 miles east of Los Angeles. Unlike the Mid-west, lakes are in short supply in Southern California, I am very priviledged to have a cabin with a great lake view. I envy you your incredible scenic beauty!
I'm curiious about how much snow you get in the winter. At my place 8 feet seems to be about max. I have a friend at Mammoth Lakes, on the east slope of the Sierra Nevada range, and he reports routine snowfalls of 30 feet! This probably explains why I go to the cabin in the winter and he doesn't. I'd like to hear about some of your winter expectations.

I'm new to this, but have been getting the magazine for a little over a year. Our cabin is on Lake Tetonka, waterville, Mn. Its been in the family since September, 1966
Hi Lake Lover,
Smith Mtn. Lake - how WONDERFUL. You may want to plan a trip down to your townhome for the Sept. 16-17, 2011 weekend if you like Antique and classic boats. There will be a boat show at your lake that weekend.
I would be there but I have another boat show in Georgia to attend.
