Need drinking water!

  • Our camp is boat access only.(3miles in). I have tried 3 times to hammer in a well point, only to hit ledge 2 ft down. Elevation above lake is about 12 ft, and we have witched a couple good vanes. I've been told a garbage pump might be able to burrow thru, but the rock will deter. Another option is a water filter in line with our gravity feed holding tank. (or UV filter). Any suggestions?

  • HI

DO not thy to the drive well, get a 3 inch twist post hole drill with extra pipe sections!

after awhile the drill will get thrugh the rock and will get down to water

level of lake plus 10 or 20 feet!

  • Good luck!

  • Have you heard of a Canadian water system?  We have one at our cabin in Minnesota off of the Gunflint Trail.  We pump out of the lake and the water is filtered in a series of filters and can be used all year as long as there is an electric source.  It works great and is safe to drink.

  • I would avoid a shallow hand drilled well especially into bedrock as you run a very high risk of bacteria contamination such as Giardia or Cryptosporidium.  Go with the UV system for safety sake.
