My summer flowers are getting hit by the frost and it's time to do a little fall decorating outside. I picked up my pumpkins and a pot of mums.
Does anyone have any additional suggestion for decorating outside for fall?
I could use some help!
I sympathize with you...frost already? Luckily (I love the heat) we are still in extended summer here, high of 94 today expected!
Another couple of weeks still to play on the water. Good luck with the fall decorating.
How about a nice scarecrow next to your mums and pumpkins? A nice fall wreath for your front door. I like to put my fall decorative flag on the front of the house, too.
Great ideas! I'm going to make my own scarecrow! I have to find a hat.
I've never done the flag decor but I'm going to do that too. I suppose you change your flag for every holiday?
Thanks for the ideas.
I'm probably more of a seasonal flag-changer, but my sister-in-law changes hers all the time. I never know what I'll see in front of her house.
Jean, how's that scarecrow coming along? I cheated and bought one at the store. Maybe next year I'll make my own.
It turned out great, looks a lot like the Wizard of Oz scarecrow.
I stuffed an old pair of jeans and a tattered shirt with fiberfill and newspaper but cut grass and weeds to hang out of the leg and arm holes. I used corn husks too to make him look authentic.
I found a tattered hat and I stitched a few patches on his clothes. I made the face out of burlap fabric and used felt to make the eyes and nose.
I stuck a shovel deep into the ground and used the shovel handle to stand him up. He's tied around the waist and neck to the shovel handle. Surprisingly, he is pretty sturdy. You can make anything with duct tape and safety pins!
It took a weekend of imagination and was great entertainment for both my husband and myself. He looks great next to the mums and pumpkins.
Sounds like Mr. Scarecrow came out just perfect. I definitely have to make one next year.
