Have you named your Get a Way, Cabin, Cottage or Lake Home ?
I am having a sign made for my Lake Home
Going with "Chalet La Verde"
For my home resembles a ski chalet placed on a picture perfect lake.
Lets hear some names and the reasons behind them from you ...
We are struggling with a name for our place. We are on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River in Wisconsin. Barred Owls and Eagles are frequent visitors. We have a wall full of sticky notes trying out ideas. So far the main contenders are: (1) Moon River Retreat (2) River Bluff Retreat (3) Barn Owl Bluff.
We want a new name to replace "Camp Work-A-Lot" which has been the moniker for the last three years!
It sounds absoloutely beautiful, thinking about all the possibilities and the sticky notes makes it that more fum. Allow me to throw one into the ring for consideration The Eagle and Owl's Nest. Good luck and let us know what you come up with, thank you for sharing.
We have 3 nesting eagles in the swamp type cove by our cottage. To hear them chirp and chatter in three different location is such a treat. The woods are very thick so we cannot see where they nest, but we see them go in and out. all the time and have actually witnessed an in-flight fight... that was literally 30 feet from our front door. Of course by the time I got the camera out , they were long gone. I'm presuming it was over territory. Not very original, but we have named our place....Eagles Cove. We had t-shirts and sweat shirts engraved for all our kids and grandkids with a monogram that my 'artist' husband designed.
What an amazing place with one of natures most beautiful sights Eagles in Flight. I love nature and its daily miracles but to have Eagles only 30 feet from my front door would be a memory I would trasure a lifetime. Thank you for sharing Eagles Cove :)
Our vacation place is on lake Allatoona just northwest of Atlanta.
I've wanted to name it something other than "money pit" .
Q: does 'Toona Tranquility sound more like the name of a boat than a cabin?
I think "Money Pit " is something every homeowner can relate to (lol) I have come to the conclusion that we never own any of our homes , we are their caretakers and they own us !! I have to say "Toona Tranquility " is a perfect name for your Lake Home. I feel complete peace and tranquility just by crossing the Dam let alone relaxing in our lake home. Water has an amazing effect on humans it seems to calm us if in a shower, on the beach, or at the lake. Ofcourse Toona Tranquility Two could always be the boat's name. Enjoy your piece of paradise
I agree totally, yes, we can relate to the 'Money Pit" thing. We lovingly refer to our place as the "work farm" also. Thank goodness we have begun to see the light at the end of the tunnel with our remodeling project!
We were driving around on dirt roads in northern New Hampshire one weekend. Ended up going up a mountain or hill or something and at the top was a cabin named "CAMPCAN'TAFFORDIT". We got a kick out of that one.
We named our cabin Gone Moosin' because that's what we do when we are there. We enjoy going out looking for moose, our favorite wild animal.
Love that one as well, a cabin owner not afraid to admit the truth (lol)
I like you love the majestic moose ....Here is a favorite poem by Arlo Guthrie:
Mooses Come Walkingby Arlo Guthrie
Mooses look into your window at nightThey look to the left and they look to the rightThe mooses are smiling, they think it's a zooAnd that's why the mooses like looking at you
So, if you see mooses while lying in bedIt's best to just stay there pretending you're deadThe mooses will leave and you'll get the thrillOf seeing the mooses go over the hill
Love that name!!!
I refer to our cabin as "The Bear's Den." We see bear on and off and we also named our tri-colored sheltie "Bear." He sort of runs the place, but now has competition from a sheltie/golden lab we rescued. "Polo" out weighs him now.
Having the household pet in charge of the house is something we can all relate to as well. The King and Queen of our home are a pair of cats who have us dutifully serving them on a daily basis. Seeing Bears routinely would be an amazing gift from nature. We have only had one sighting in these parts in the past 30 years. (pout) There is an increase however in deer, fox, herron, eagles and swan!! Hope to haer more from "The Bear's Den"
