Ok, summer's over, got it. Not thrilled, but somehow I understand the whole earth revolving around the sun thing and the cycles it generates (we can communicate anywhere in the world with cell phones but we can't alter the sun's gravitational pull???).
Now that non-water fun activities are required for visits to the cabin, what are cool things to do without wiping out our appreciation for the board games we have accumulated?
Some of you will say hiking, some will say relaxing...I have 5 kids from 8-15 and relaxing certainly won't work...hiking, I think that will work...what else?
Our place is by a river. The river bank is covered with princess pine. I love to pick pine and make wreaths to give as gifts during the holiday season.
My grandsons think its great to help me pick the princess pine. I like to get them involved before the hunting season starts. They stay close to the cabin after the season opener.
In December, we always put up a cabin christmas tree. We decorate it with fishing lures, wildlife ornaments, etc. We have two trout streams by the cabin, and fish if it isn't freezing! Plenty of hiking trails near by, and Eureka Springs is near by (small, art community, in fact, the whole downtown is on the National Historic Register). My favorite activity is still laying on the couch, reading a book, and looking out at the lake!
Sounds relaxing! I love the smell of the wood fire in the winter. It's great to look out the window and know how cold it is outside but I'm warm and toasty by the fire.
We do a lot of snowshoeing in the winter. There are trails all around our property and the neighbors property. They don't mind at all if we use their trails.
There's not much for us to do this time of year. We may spend New Year's at the cabin this year. We are anxiously awaiting the start of snowmobile season and we will probably do a little snowshoeing also.
a group of us at the lake have a vintage snowmobile race. we all find a 340cc or less, 1978 or older, $4oo or less sled, plow a kidney bean shaped track with one good mogul jump, and race.
cool, wish them made a snowmobile that ran in mud...our water in our lake gets taken down in the winter, our cove where we are goes dry

Sounds like a lot of fun. Love those old sleds.
We love to geocache with our kids. Its cheap and fun. We find all sorts of new places to explore wherever we go. Simply google geocaching. If you have a hand held GPS or the ap on your phone you'll be set.
Its like free treasure hunting. You find a small hidden treasure box or smaller, record your visit, and perhaps take a treasure and leave a treasure in the box. We've been to small parks, explored old cemetaries, and much more. Check it out. Its FUN for all. and addicting. We've now found over 50 caches in about 8 states.
ENJOY!
