vinyl log cabin siding

Has anyone out there installed vinyl log cabin siding on their home? We're thinking of re-siding our cottage, which currently has vinyl siding that is badly faded by the sun. Any suggestions, pros, cons, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Siding has many styles, designs, colors and materials. Covering the exterior of your home with log siding can make it look like a log home without rebuilding the home. Log siding comes in quarter logs and half logs. The finishes are smooth, knotted or, for that authentic log-home appearance, hand-hewn. Some log siding isn't even wood, but resembles wood and is available in vinyl or steel. Common wood choices for log siding are pine or cedar. The installation of this material can be difficult for the weekend warrior or tough for the construction novice. My advice is to seek proffesional help, doing the job right the first time is advantageous in many ways. My personal taste, I like the cedar on our lake front home. Maintenance is minimal, restaining approximately every 7 years will easily maintain the desired look. Good luck on your project and keep us informed.

we haven't but I am thinking next year or year after of doing same.

If you don't mind, would you post updates as you progress with your project?

I have a friend here in Connecticut who built himself a very nice chalet-style house and he sided it with the vinyl logs. I thought it looked very nice and he seems to be happy with it. He decided it was easier than building a log home. He just wanted the look and liked the fact that it's maintenance-free.
