dock improvement question
blmeanie Posted: Sun, Apr 25 2010 9:07 AM Reply

I have a dock with a roof over a middle slip.  When I put the boat in all is well and the roof somewhat protects the boat from weather.

I still have to cover the boat (rain/sun) so my question is - could I mount those roll-up plastic walls that outdoor restaurant patios use in the winter and cool times on 3 sides of my roof line?

I think they would stop all rain and I could even leave the cover off when I'm not there.

I cannot find what these panels are called however.  Have spent 20 minutes looking for where to buy them and cannot find them anywhere.

Would that work?

Good solution?

what are they called?

Thanks in advance

Not sure if this is what you mean, but I've seen these at Home Depot.  Sometimes in the clearance section.  They are plastic and in stock.  I did a search at the Home Depot sight and entered 'plastic roll up blinds.'   There would have to be some sort of anchor system to make sure they didn't flap in the wind.  I'm not sure if they are for outdoor use but the picture suggestes that.  They were inexpensive.  Hope this helps.

not exactly, thanks for trying though.  what I have in mind is what you would see at a restaurant with a patio during cold/cool months.  They have temporary plastic based walls put up and would have those portable heater poles brought in.  The walls would hang, sometimes they are zippered together.

We use a vinyl screen cloth {green in color}. It doesn't roll up but we use straps with snap buckles. The female end is attached to the framing and the male end snaps in. It keeps the dew off the boat which I find amazing. The stuff is light-weight and you can find it at any canvas shop. You could roll it up which would probably work better. It has to be portable  {not permanent} if you are in Minnesota.

I know what your talking about, check this out....

Is that what you are talking about?

Living in GA as well I can tell you that most of the spring you will not want to leave the boat uncovered for more than a day, as the pollen will mount up quickly!  Also, I find that when I leave my boat uncovered in the slip overnight the seats get wet with dew, which make morning boat rides a drag!

that looks exactly what I want, not too expensive in the big picture either.

Thanks, btw- what lake are you on?

I'm on Burntside Lake in Ely, Minnesota. So if you are in Northern Minnesota check with Deb at;

Canvas Shop
5051 Wahlsten Rd
Embarrass, MN 55732
(218) 984-3102

Let her know what you want and she can make it for you. The screen cloth is thicker than regular screen material that goes in windows. It really looks great, blocks the suns direct rays, keeps the rain from coming in from the sides, and keeps the dew off over night. Ours extends below the top of the boat sides. We have a pontoon boat.
