I need ideas to make our pier more comfortable to walk on

Here is the good news and the bad news I have an aluminum pier that will last forever - the bad news is that it has one inch carpet strips on the deck that have worn down and now making it uncomfortable to walk on. Pier Pleasure piers are great piers and they use to offer a carpeted model but after many years the carpet wears down which leaves an aluminum edge. They no longer sell replacement carpet strips so I am thinking about using indoor outdoor carpet, cutting it into  4x8 sections and gluing the carpet down to each of the sections. I don't want to add a lot of weight just want to make it more comfortable. Anyone have another idea?

I was going to suggest hydro-turf but a link I used to have came up empty, not sure if they went out of business or what.

Anyway - it is/was a product usually sold to be cut to spec for padding on the foot area on a PWC but I have seen instances where people used it on their swim platform and there is no reason that it could not serve you well on a dock.

here is the link :  http://hydroturf.com/pwc_matcolors.php

I ended up using indoor outdoor carpet cutting them into 4x8 foot sections and glewing them down. It took a much longer than I thought, but so far it has done the job. The carpet is reasonable priced but I was surprised at how much glue it took. I will have to see how it holds up in the extreme weather conditions. So far the family is very happy with the change.
